ROO LAW Wayne Rooney reveals his major role in wife’s Wagatha Christie trial and ‘applied to study law’ at university after case

WAYNE Rooney has revealed the major role he played in his wife's Wagatha Christie trial.

The case dates back to 2019 after Coleen Rooney alleged Rebekah Vardy had leaked stories about her private life to the press.

Vardy subsequently filed a libel lawsuit against Rooney and lost.

The ex-Manchester United forward, 38, has now claimed he told Coleen's barrister the questions that should be asked.

Rooney told the Stick to Football podcast: "Sometimes you've got to have a bit of fun with the media!

"To be fair, it's something that I've always watched and looked at as well.

"When Coleen had the court case with Rebekah Vardy, I was there with the barrister and the lawyers, and I was saying to the barrister, 'You need to ask this question'."

He also revealed his interest in the law did not go away after the case as he applied to study the subject at university.

Rooney continued: "I did apply – it was to Nottingham University - I applied to go in and try and study, but then I did go away.

"I want to do it to get one of those wigs on!"

The England legend was a regular in the High Court as his wife, 37, won her case over claims Vardy was leaking stories about the couple.

Coleen previously said of Wayne: "He wanted to be there and he was quite interested in the way the court works.

"I think he thought he was gonna go on to become a barrister. He had so many opinions about it all.

"Sometimes I was, like, 'Be quiet, Wayne, stop talking about the court, we just left!'.

"He's actually a really good talker. People still think of him as that 16-year-old lad having to do press conferences.

"But he's professional, and if he wasn't he wouldn't be a manager now."

The mum-of-four is expected to start exploring new opportunities following the success of her Wagatha Christie TV documentary.

Meanwhile, Wayne was recently fired after less than three months in charge of Championship outfit Birmingham City.

He left Washington-based DC United last summer before coming back to the UK.

Wayne took over at St Andrew’s in October after John Eustace was fired, when Birmingham were sixth.

He was axed after a 3-0 New Year's Day beating at Leeds, where Birmingham fans sang: "Wayne Rooney, get out of our club."

Sources revealed how he never settled at the Midlands outfit in what was said to be a "toxic" atmosphere.

Wayne Rooney was speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet.
